AS evaluation
In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product was a campaign website designed to provide information to viewers on bullying and many factors surrounding the issue. We felt bullying was relevant and is an ongoing factor at current. In the research and planning process we looked at several other websites regarding the prevention of bullying etc and found that they were commonly very easy to read as they targeted a younger audience. From our survey results we also saw that bullying was most common in young people around 12-16 perhaps. We also targeted a young audience and so used a typical urban layout to appeal to our target audience in which allows our website to be more accessible and user friendly to our readers. The language we used was also easily readable and understandable by young people but was also effective as we knew adults may read some of the information to learn more about the concept of bullying.
The layout of our website was also similar to other websites based on the same campaign where pages were displayed and could be found and clicked on easily. We didn't feel as though we included as much information as some other websites but like many of the websites we researched we used pictures that we took on many of our pages to provide a sense of emotion and interaction with our audience in which we felt we achieved to a satisfactory standard.
How does your media product represent certain social groups?
As our target audience was based on mostly teenagers we were mainly talking about this demographic and so we used pictures and case studies of teenagers who had been bullied so they are in a similar position in life to some of the readers we may come accross, and when people see others in a similar situation in terms of bullying, they feel more assured if they are of a similar age and so we felt this was important. However we also recognise that teenagers were being bullied frequently by other teenagers and so we did not show bias towards certain groups within the youth demographic.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
As our product is a website and not a film it may be harder to find somewhere to distribute it, firstly we would need to gain feedback ensuring that it was up to a satisfactory standard before creating and posting a real formal website.
However i feel our product could be distributed as it is effective in achieving our main goal and providing information about bullying to our target audience and this was highly aided by the use of pictures, colour schemes, font, language and a video. I do feel as though there are many websites out there based on the same campaign that are more effective however when comparing the websites we looked at they all varied in terms of colour schemes, and approach to their target audience etc, even though all their target audiences were of a similar demographic to ours.
How did you attract/address your audience?
When designing our website we tried to do so bearing our target audience in mind as these are the most important people who we are effectively trying to help and appeal to. when attracting our target audience, we used specific language suitable for this age group to read and understand clearly. We also used case studies, a video and many images in order to interact with our audience and to really give them a sense of emotional involvement in our website.
The background we used was an urban design as we thought this would be fitting considering the age group we are targetting and we also specifically tried to make our website easy to navigate through clearly displaying where each page can be found and briefing the audience as to what they can expect to find on each page.
Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
Through out the process and when we first completed our preliminary task i feel that i have become more knowledgeable in the designing process as i am now able to use Iweb efficiently, another piece of software that i have got to grips with is photoshop as we used this in editing most of our pictures to create certain effects and the more i have used it the more effects etc i have learnt how to implement. I have also gained a better understanding of how more accomplished websites have targeted their audience and how they have specifically incorporated certain factors in their website to purposely attract and cater for their chosen target audiences.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Through out the making of our website i have gained a greater understanding of the importance of many factors when designing and creating your own website, one of these being the usefulness of a high detail camera and the many shot angles possible. For example there are many different shot angles in which contribute to the overall effect of a photo and help to signify a particular notion such as a low angle shot which is often used to show a sense of power on the subject in the frame.
This is my evaluation for my AS project in which i answered 6 questions regarding the overall product i created and the skills and other factors i was exposed to in researching and planning it.

AS final product
Website new shots
This is our final draft of our website in which we changed many factors from our original design. We have implemented a three column layout and included more information in which will appeal and be of greater help to our target audience.
Our website is also easier to navigate as we have used less titles on the home page, and we have included more pictures and a different urban background layout to make it look more professional and appropriate to our target audience.

analysis of 6 websites similar to mine
6 Websites for analysis
This is my 6 website comparisons, in which i researched into 6 other websites based on a similar campaign to mine and analysed certain factors eg homepage, and compared them to my homepage looking at factors such as colour, font, and choice of language and this shows how they have approached their target audience in which i also must consider.By looking at other websites similar to mine it also informed me of things such as what images to use etc and how i can maximise the use of my website.

hi craig
Can you start by putting what you have in order according to the approximate date you did things.
Explain everything you have on here - explain what it is, why you did it and what you learned from it.
You need to use print screens in your analysis of other websites so the moderator can see what you're talking about.

This is my target audience report for our website, This is a vital factor that must be thought out when producing a website, By finding out who our website would be most useful to, we could then mould our style and text around what would suit the age and attitudes of the possible readers. by aiming for 15-20 year olds this means our language will need to be sophisticated, but easily accessible and understandable. We also had to be aware adults e.g. teachers may read our website, and so it must be appropriate and necessary. because of the demographic of our target audience, it means it would be helpful to use a multi-media approach, including a video we created and images associated with our text. this allows all readers to see the text and engage their imagination making a connection with our website and its purpose.

8 page website
This is the layout of all 8 of our website pages, they are in order of how they appear on the search bar on our actual website.
Within our website we have used the same colours on most pages including images on most pages with an additional video.
We used a phone to record the video and take the images and then linked it to the computer to place it onto our website.since then we have decided to change the layout of our website slightly in which was advised from our feedback.
This is the video for our bullying website
This is the video we created to post on our AS website, we used a video as it provides a sense of interaction with the reader, i feel this is especially useful in the case of bullying as it is an outlet for viewers who are or have been bullied. We decided to base this short video on showing a form of bullying and also sends out the message that is happens to many different people in many different forms. This also enhanced our filming and editing skills and we feel it was an effective form of media to implement on our website.

This is the Tunstall High preliminary website in which we created, by designing and actually making this website allowed us to progress in using programs such as Iweb in which would then help us make our main website. From this we also got a better idea of what layout, font, and other forms of multi-media help to make a website more appealing and overall satisfy its target audience. We chose the colour blue for the main part of our website as we feel this would be most eye catching and as it was a school website we designed, it would not be too off putting.

Preliminary website draft sketch
This is our draft sketch for our preliminary website, here we planned what colours and layout we will include in our "Tunstall high school" web page, and by planning this it made it much easier when creating this via Iweb. However it was only an outline as we did change this version slightly, to make it look more professional and for it to be more accessible.

Today we are starting our annotations , of other websites similar to ours.
We are also planning our short video to include on our website.

These are our results for the survey we conducted in relation to our website, we created this survey to find out first hand some information and facts regarding certain social groups and characteristics in a range of ages. We also asked our class in school whether they had bullied someone or had been bullied through-out their school experience. By finding out this information it allowed us to find how frequent bullying cases can be and we also aimed to get a better insight into the causes and effects of bullying, this information also helped us when producing our actual website itself.

This is our survey for our website
This is the survey we produced in order to find out about peoples perception of bullying, we gave these out to 20 students and then used the answers we received to make judgements on certain factors to do with bullying, eg how relevant do teenagers feel it is, to be educated about bullying, its causes and effects. By finding this out also showed what information we should include in our website and how we can make it most beneficial to our target audience.

team meeting
This is me and Taylor deciding on ideas for our website, we had to discuss what we will base it on and the reasons behind that decision, and with this includes who our target audience will be and what it is we will want to inform people about.
